Next-gen security comes to OpenStack cloud in Mirantis, Palo Alto deal

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Mirantis and Palo Alto Networks have partnered on a virtual network function solution they say brings next-generation security to the OpenStack cloud.

The solution sees Palo Alto Networks next-generation security integrated into Mirantis' production-grade OpenStack distibution, Mirantis OpenStack, as a virtual network function.

The companies say the offering will protect applications from cyberthreats while taking advantage of the agility, cost savings and innovation of the OpenStack cloud ecosystem.

Kamesh Pemmaraju, Mirantis vice president of product marketing, says as enterprises transition to a cloud infrastructure model, they migrate from hardware-based network services to a software-based virtualised approach.

“Integrating Mirantis OpenStack with Palo Alto Networks VM-Series next generation firewall is a good example of helping accelerate and secure this transition,” Pemmaraju says.

Marc Benoit, Palo Alto Networks' vice president of technical business development, says OpenStack cloud environments are an attractive choice for many organisations, providing them with the flexibility to accelerate innovation by rapidly deploying emerging technologies such as network function virtualisation.

“We have teamed with Mirantis to give organisations next-generation security as a virtual network function needed to operationalise OpenStack and effectively prevent successful cyber breaches,” Benoit says.
