FYI, this story is more than a year old

New Westcon Group ANZ Managing Director Dave Rosenberg aims to hit the ground running in his new role, with the NZ MD heading across the ditch to head up the distributor’s regional office.

Revealed by The Channel last week, Rosenberg's new role provides the perfect reward for continued business success on Kiwi shores.

Speaking to The Channel, Rosenberg says he heads to Australia with no preconceived ideas, understanding the stark contrast between both markets across the Tasman.

“The New Zealand and Australian markets have some differences for sure,” says Rosenberg, who starts his new role on August 1, in Sydney.

“The first thing I need to do is spend quality time assessing the market before making any decisions.

“Many Kiwis have gone across the ditch to take over Australian businesses before and applied what they learnt in New Zealand before realising it’s not the same.”

Bringing a great depth of knowledge and expertise to the role, in 15 years at Westcon Group, Rosenberg has developed an enviable record in delivering success.

As a member of the Regional Asia Pacific Leadership team, Rosenberg plans to dedicate his early days in his new role working with staff, vendors and resellers, as he attempts to understand what makes the Australian division tick.

“We’ve got a great business in Australia and I’ve certainly got a lot to build on,” says Rosenberg, who joined the company from Datastor business in February 1999.

“I’ll be examining what makes the business successful, as well as the challenges and will use that to ensure we do the best for our vendors and customers.”

Testament to New Zealand…

Rosenberg’s appointment is testament to the success of Westcon’s NZ division, which has enjoyed a stellar start to 2014, as celebrated by global CEO Dolph Westerbos last month.

“We’ve had a great year in New Zealand from a business perspective and everything is going exceptionally well,” says Rosenberg, who will still be a regular visitor to the company’s North Shore-based headquarters.

“I’m fortunate that we have a very capable leadership team in New Zealand so there’s no problems on the front - which is a testament to how good my staff actually are.”

Designed to strengthen Westcon’s plans for the future, in his new role Rosenberg will be tasked with helping to deliver the business’ strategic global priorities and to focus on the synergies between vendors, partners and systems to deliver business-critical results across the ANZ market.

And while success in New Zealand does not guarantee similar results in Australia, in Rosenberg, Westcon are well placed to buck that trend.
