With a greater focus on the New Zealand channel, Symantec's refreshed market strategy means good news for the local market.
That's the view of Sam Taylor, Westcon's Vendor Business Manager, and the man tasked with expanding the company's presence across the country.
After being appointed as the exclusive Enterprise and Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB) solutions distributor in New Zealand for Symantec in August this year, Taylor is unwavering in his belief that the company's refreshed approach will help drive business nationwide.
"Symantec is incredibly focused on the New Zealand channel," Taylor says. "They've done a lot of soul searching and the end result is a more concentrated market strategy.
"Symantec is 100% channel focused, with the company committing a lot of time and resources into working with the channel to drive business."
Going forward, the global leader in security, backup and availability solutions will focus on investing in the right channels, at the right time, to help create sustained partner growth.
“In fact, we’re more committed to our partners and distributors than ever before," said Symantec, when announcing the company's Global Channel Strategy in early December.
Set to launch in phases beginning in early 2014, the change in strategic direction focuses on recognising and rewarding the company's partners, based on the value they provide.
"Partners are essential to Symantec's business and are at the heart of the company's core values," says Taylor, echoing Symantec's mantra of a more committed channel approach.
Committed to delivering global solutions that meet local needs, Symantec has operations in more than 48 countries, including research and development facilities and 24x7 Security Operations Centers and Security Response Labs located around the world.
Symantec has established some of the most comprehensive sources of Internet threat data in the world through the Symantec Global Intelligence Network.
This network captures worldwide security intelligence data that gives Symantec analysts unparalleled sources of data to identify and analyze, to deliver protection and provide informed commentary on emerging trends in attacks, malicious code activity, phishing and spam.
In being the exclusive Enterprise and Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB) solutions distributor in New Zealand for Symantec, Taylor believes such an agreement is of great benefit to the New Zealand market.
"Since going exclusive, we've been able to increase our focus with Symantec, based on better insight into Symantec's business," Taylor says.
"Personally, I've been treated as part of the Symantec team which has meant that we are able to work more closely.
"It means Westcon can work closely on increasing Symantec's channel footprint in New Zealand, which is in keeping with the company's commitment to the Kiwi market."
