Nexus Data Security relaunches as KeepItSafe
Sat, 20th Apr 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Kiwi online backup company Nexus Data Security is all about keeping it safe, and after seven successful years in the market, the company is re-launching as KeepItSafe New Zealand.

Following a partnership with multi-national online services specialist J2 Global, the deal means new opportunities for both partners and customers going forward.

Peter Thomas, Nexus Data Security director, says the partnership will see market-leading advancements for the local company's technology and product delivery in New Zealand, but the company will remain 'very local', gaining the best of both worlds. J2 Global’s services include voice, CRM, fax, email and data.

“The New Zealand operation is still based out of our New Zealand offices and the support staff are all local," he says.

"Also, importantly, the data is stored in New Zealand – there is no offshore storage of data for New Zealand customers.

“We now have the backing of a multi-national computer backup specialist. KeepItSafe has offices in Ireland, The Netherlands, USA, New Zealand and we are soon launching in Australia.

“They are the only provider with ISO27001 certification, which is the global Security Management System (ISMS) benchmark. Regular audits ensure our systems are at the industry leading edge.”

Thomas says that Nexus has seen the market for online backup go from strength to strength.

While traditional tape or hard-drive based backups seemed like a viable system to many, the Christchurch earthquake really ‘exposed their underbelly’.

“Unless data is secured offsite in multiple data centers, data loss is going to be a reality," he says.

"For most businesses, this simply isn’t an option. Data loss is very expensive, it costs companies time, reputation and cash.

“The cost of online backup compared to the risk associated with inferior systems is a ‘no brainer’ for a CFO or business owner."

Partner focus

KeepItSafe is New Zealand’s largest online provider and plans to consolidate that position through a strong focus on business development through partner channels.

Globally, KeepItSafe has a strong partner focus and Thomas says the new deal will see an extension of the partner programme locally.

“Partners will have greater access to marketing partnerships with us and more flexible storage and pricing options.

"The aim is to allow partners to meet the market with the most robust data backup system available.”

KeepItSafe's commitment to global market leadership ensures partners will get the benefit of new technologies ahead of the market.

And for Kiwi partners, that means not only enhanced backup product offerings, but a whole new portfolio of services becoming available to allow them to create new revenue streams.

“Our shared goal is to provide a world-class backup solution at a local level,” Thomas says.

“We will be investing heavily in our products, customer support and partner channels in order to achieve the broadest reach, in the shortest time.”

The new brand isn’t just a facelift, either. The company is replacing all its storage appliances, upgrading bandwidth with multiple failover links, improving support systems and collaborating with overseas partners to deliver an outstanding local service, Thomas says.

“The new look represents our real focus on customer needs and, more importantly, their data.

"Our commitment is to keep it safe.”

With new products, strengthened partner relationships – including training and marketing initiatives and the entry into the Australian market mid-year, 2013 is looking like an exciting year for the business.
