Wed, 17th Apr 2024

Digital technology solutions provider Optimation has reached the finals of the NZ Hi-Tech Awards 2024 with their innovative product, Optimation Connect. This revolutionary advancement is nominated in the Best Hi-Tech Solution for the Public Good category and is a pioneer in the transformation of community rehabilitation.

Optimation Connect, designed with a significant focus on accessibility and inclusivity, is set to redefine the way community correction officers achieve effective case management. This state-of-the-art solution enhances individuals' connectivity with their rehabilitation process and provides an assortment of online services. These include an in-office kiosk and web and mobile phone applications that can be accessed via fingerprint and facial biometrics.

This intelligent tool combines an array of contemporary technologies, facilitating the engagement of a wide spectrum of individuals within communities. It efficiently solves issues related to digital accessibility across sprawling and frequently remote areas. Through a long-established alliance with New Zealand’s Department of Corrections and other public sector local agencies, Optimation developed Connect, also leading to a successful collaboration with Queensland Corrective Services (QCS).

In 2023, QCS was the first to implement Optimation Connect as part of a five-year agreement. The solution was installed across its regional offices in Queensland and is currently available to approximately 90% of supervised community individuals. It not only assists them in adhering to their supervision orders but also enables QCS staff to manage their caseloads more productively.

Optimation's Managing Director, Warrick Flower, stated, “We have built Connect with the aim of delivering tangible benefits to both agencies and supervised individuals.” Encouraging early results indicate a 40% improvement in attendance rates for community work programmes, a 30% rise in on-time presence for in-person check-ins, and roughly a 40% decrease in repetitive paper-based tasks by officers. Additionally, the solution has brought about a 60% reduction in officer appointment durations and a 25% cut in curfew call centre and security call-out expenses.

"The challenge was to deliver these functions to a diverse group while maintaining security and complying with the law," Mr Flower noted. "Connect achieves this and layers other capabilities to become a hub for better rehabilitation journeys."

In the esteemed NZ Hi-Tech Awards, Optimation's nomination as a finalist is a tribute to their dedication and reformist work. Neil Butler, Chair of Optimation, shared, “Our vision for Connect is to revolutionise the rehabilitation journey. It’s a massive challenge and it is wonderful to receive this recognition from the NZ Hi-Tech Awards. This achievement is testament to our outstanding team’s hard work, creativity and commitment.” The award winners will be announced on 24 May at the annual NZ Hi-Tech Awards Gala Dinner in Auckland.
