Wipro wins managed services contract with largest telco in Banngladesh

​Wipro Limited has won a five-year IT infrastructure and applications managed services engagement with Grameenphone.

As a global information technology, consulting and business process services company, Wipro is continuing to expand its reach with the deal with Grameenphone – the largest mobile telecommunications operator in Bangladesh, majority owned by Telenor Group, one of the world's major mobile operators.

Senior vice president and global head of the communications business unit at Wipro, Anil K Jain says the team are over the moon with the result.

“We are delighted to have been chosen by Grameenphone as the strategic partner for this engagement, which will leverage both our domain expertise and industry leading artificial intelligence platform – Wipro HOLMES,” says Jain.

“Telenor is a strategic client for us and this engagement further strengthens our relationship with Telenor.

Under the contract, Wipro will be managing the complete IT landscape for Grameenphone, leveraging its Wipro HOLMES platform to do so.

Wipro will own end-to-end application development and management, infrastructure support and maintenance and back office processes for Grameenphone for the duration of the contract.

Chief executive officer at Grameenphone, Michael Foley says the choice was made on based on results.

“We selected Wipro as the partner to offer Managed services for Grameenphone based on a thorough evaluation process, and we are very proud of being able to attract a world class organization like Wipro to Bangladesh,” says Foley.

“We have full trust in this partnership to deliver the business results as per plan.

According to Wipro, the partnership between the two organizations closely aligns with the company's vision to localize, expand its presence and explore new businesses opportunities in the country – in fact, Wipro will be setting up a new delivery centre in Bangladesh to reflect this.
