Amber Technology expands ABB automation distribution to New Zealand
Amber Technology has announced the extension of its strategic distribution partnership with ABB to now cover the New Zealand market.
The agreement will see Amber Technology distribute ABB I-bus KNX and ABB-free@home products to New Zealand integrators and installers, expanding its offering of building and home automation solutions for both residential and commercial projects.
This move builds on Amber Technology's existing partnership with ABB in Australia, which was extended earlier this year to include ABB-free@home, and initially began in 2024. The two companies aim to strengthen their position within the Australian and New Zealand smart building sector by offering a broader range of automation and lighting control systems.
Amber Technology's New Zealand distribution network will provide local integrators and installers with improved access to ABB's home and building automation products, aiming to ensure greater product availability for New Zealand customers.
Smart automation offerings
ABB-free@home is designed to help convert homes into smart environments, giving users control over various systems including blinds, lighting, heating and cooling, and door communications. The system can be managed via wall switches, laptops or smartphones, with a focus on improving energy efficiency, comfort, and cost-effectiveness.
As part of the expanded partnership, New Zealand integrators and installers will also have access to ABB I-bus KNX through Amber Technology. ABB I-bus KNX is based on the internationally recognised KNX standard, and connects all electrical components in a building into a single network for unified control and information flow.
Industry perspectives
Duncan Baker, Marketing and Sales Director, Smart Power and Smart Buildings Divisions – Electrification at ABB, commented on the partnership's expansion into New Zealand.
ABB is delighted to extend its partnership with Amber Technology into the NZ market, further enhancing ABB's offering in the commercial and residential sectors. Amber Technology's expertise and market reach in the local region will play a key role in expanding the installer network, making ABB I-bus KNX and ABB-free@home the building automation solution of choice. ABB looks forward to building on its existing successful collaboration with Amber Technology.
Nathan Brady, General Manager of Integrated Solutions at Amber Technology, also welcomed the development, outlining the expected benefits for local customers and the broader market.
Amber Technology is thrilled to expand its relationship with ABB into New Zealand. As demand for building automation and smart home technology continues to grow, ABB I-bus KNX and ABB-free@home will simplify automation without compromising functionality. Amber Technology's continued partnership with ABB brings a sophisticated, scalable solution to NZ installers and homeowners that integrates with modern residential and commercial environments seamlessly. Amber Technology is confident that both ABB I-bus KNX and ABB-free@home will become the preferred choice for those seeking reliable and intelligent automation technology.
Impact on the local market
With the demand for smart building and home automation solutions increasing in New Zealand, Amber Technology aims to support installers and integrators by giving them access to these product ranges and the accompanying technical expertise. The company believes this will help installers deliver tailored automation and lighting control solutions for different project sizes and requirements.
The expanded partnership is expected to facilitate the broader adoption of networked automation systems in both new and existing buildings across the residential and commercial sectors in New Zealand.
