FYI, this story is more than a year old

CallPlus and subsidiary Slingshot are to stop reselling traffic on Vodafone’s mobile network and take up with Telecom, citing the need to keep pace with technology while maintaining price competitiveness.

CallPlus CEO Mark Callander says the company has ‘big ambitions’ for driving growth in mobile services as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO).

"We believe the Telecom Wholesale team is the right partner to help us achieve these goals,” Callander says.

"Soon we’ll be able to offer even better data plans and we will also be launching some new smartphone and group data packages.”

Indeed, the adoption of the smartphone played a big part in the switch.

"The use of smartphones has grown dramatically in the last couple of years and they are now an essential tool for many people,” Callander says.

"The Telecom network is designed for smartphones and moving mobile data around the country at ultra-fast speeds.”

Vodafone external communications manager Michelle Baguley says the company wishes CallPlus all the very best as they continue their journey in the mobile space.

"The wholesale market is a competitive and vibrant marketplace," Baguley says.

"We're competing hard and will continue to do so."

CallPlus will be contacting its customers in the next few weeks to explain the transition.
