EonFibre & Datacentre220 boost fibre links for NZ data hubs

Mon, 10th Nov 2025

EonFibre has entered into a partnership with Datacentre220 to provide direct fibre connectivity for businesses located at 220 Queen Street, Auckland. The arrangement introduces EonFibre's DC Direct service at Datacentre220, offering enterprise customers new options for transferring high volumes of data between data hubs throughout New Zealand.

Data demand

The partnership responds to rapid growth in data centre traffic fuelled by artificial intelligence and cloud computing adoption. Both companies aim to support increased data flows and provide connections that meet the requirements of modern digital businesses.

"Partnering with Datacentre220 ensures customers can directly access scalable, high-capacity fibre routes through our newly launched DC Direct solution, connecting them to New Zealand's critical data hubs and international gateways. Rather than sharing bandwidth with consumer traffic, DC Direct has extensive reach covering over 30 major data centres and LFC exchanges across the country on high-capacity fibre routes, delivering future-proof scalability, and uninterrupted performance. Our proactive capacity management keeps businesses ahead of the curve as AI adoption continues to accelerate," said Richard Mooney, Chief Executive Officer, EonFibre.

EonFibre's recently upgraded backbone supports speeds up to 1.6 Tb/s per wavelength. This development is designed to enable reliable use of emerging and bandwidth-intensive applications across the network.

Facility integration

Datacentre220 operates what it describes as New Zealand's most connected data centre. The facility boasts a 100% uptime record since 2009 and draws its power from sustainable sources. The partnership will make EonFibre's DC Direct service available from within the data centre, offering another interconnection route to its tenants and partners.

"We've built Datacentre220 to be a connectivity ecosystem designed for resilience, choice, and performance. Customers expect the freedom to connect the way they need to, and by integrating EonFibre's DC Direct into our facility, we're providing our customers even more freedom with connectivity that supports digital transformation, cloud adoption, and the future of work in New Zealand," said Ross Delaney, Chief Executive Officer, Datacentre220.

Wider access

The DC Direct service is designed for enterprises, service providers, and scale operators seeking high-capacity links between strategic data centres, including those serving key industries such as finance, healthcare, energy, and telecommunications. It enables users at Datacentre220 to establish connections beyond the Auckland CBD, leveraging EonFibre's fibre infrastructure which comprises more than 11,000 km linking metro rings, national backbones, and undersea cables.

Both companies position this collaboration as an opportunity to cater for growing requirements in managing and moving large-scale datasets, particularly as New Zealand organisations increase their reliance on cloud platforms and digital services.

Delaney said, "Customers expect the freedom to connect the way they need to, and by integrating EonFibre's DC Direct into our facility, we're providing our customers even more freedom with connectivity that supports digital transformation, cloud adoption, and the future of work in New Zealand."
