FYI, this story is more than a year old

Storage virtualisation vendor ioFabric has set up an office in Sydney on the back of high regional demand for its offerings, with Greg Wyman taking on the role of Asia Pacific vice president for the company.

Wyman, previously StorageCraft Asia Pacific vice president, will establish and spearhead the company's Asia Pacific expansion, with an initial focus on Australia and New Zealand.

“No other hardware or software vendor can deliver the full capabilities of ioFabric Vicinity,” Wyman says of ioFabric's software-defined platform.

“It does to storage what virtualisation did to physical servers – we make storage easy to manage, cost effective and scalable without expensive forklift upgrades.

Wyman is bullish about the offering's prospects, saying: “This solution is going to change the storage industry.

The company sells exclusively through its reseller channel.

ioFabric says its software-defined platform extends the life of existing storage while increasing performance, reducing capital expenses and enabling organisations to add storage as needed for performance and/or capacity.

The offering profiles all storage and provides the intelligence required to manage it, whether on-premises or in the cloud. Vicinity supports VMware, Hyper-V and Openstack, along with Docker, with features including alerting, logging, monitoring and metrics.

Nigel Miller, ioFabric vice president of business development, says ioFabric Vicinity meets ‘a strong need' for extending the life of current data storage infrastructures and adding newer technologies such as flash arrays or cloud storage easily and without risk or downtime.
