IBM has said that Ingram Micro will distribute IBM Virtual Server Services to the New Zealand channel.

Raymond Skoglund, IBM New Zealand’s Channels Manager, said, "With cloud computing we are experiencing a dramatic change in computing purchasing and delivery models. However, it is important to be responsive to the needs of customers who may choose to fully embrace cloud now or opt for a hybrid model initially.

"Working together with an experienced distributor like Ingram Micro, IBM can provide a robust and flexible option for resellers to offer cloud computing services in line with the needs of their customers.”

IBM says its Virtual Server Services are designed to increase flexibility and optimise IT investments, while addressing security, reliability and value.

Gary Bigwood, Managing Director of Ingram Micro New Zealand, added, "The ability to offer our channel partners, and their customers, flexibility and scalability via cloud-based solutions - whether that’s private cloud or hybrid solutions - is critical.

"This new initiative from IBM allows us to offer resellers highly reliable cloud-based solutions that complement their existing cloud and data center offerings. It enables them to tailor solutions to meet the specific needs of their customers, whatever their existing infrastructure might be.”

The new services will be hosted by IBM New Zealand and priced on a per virtual server, per month usage basis.

Ingram Micro will engage directly with resellers, providing the technical and pre-sales support, training and administrative back-end resources including credit approvals and billing.

While Ingram Micro will focus on resellers creating bespoke solutions for customers, some businesses are already said to be working directly with IBM to develop packaged solutions.
