FYI, this story is more than a year old

Fresh out of Broadcasting School, Marty Hehewerth has camped for close to three days outside MagnumMac's flagship Newmarket store waiting for one of the country's first iPads.

The intern for Auckland radio station The Edge was drafted on Wednesday morning around 7:30am by the station's manager for the role. At 8:30 that morning the vigil started, but by 11pm the same day, driving rain had sent poor Marty packing. After a good night's sleep Marty was back in place on Thursday morning around 9am. Luckily no other Aucklanders had braved the cold to queue up.

Thursday evening the chain of Parallel Import stores had grabbed the marketing opportunity to show that its stores were already selling imported iPads by giving Marty his very own. But his vigil will continue, determined to be New Zealand's first officially imported iPad owner.

The iPad will officially go on sale at the store and other as yet unnamed locations at 8am Friday morning.
