Kyndryl reports 18% cut in emissions & advances in sustainability

Kyndryl has released its Fiscal Year 2025 Corporate Citizenship Report detailing advances in sustainability, employee development, and responsible governance.

Environmental progress

The report sets out Kyndryl's progress across its three core pillars: Environment, People and Trust. In particular, the company recorded an 18% reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions compared to its fiscal year 2023 baseline, as part of its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. The company's near-term climate targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

Total energy consumption also decreased by 15% in comparison to the previous year, with renewable sources accounting for 58% of all electricity purchased by the company.

Recognition and awards

Kyndryl's work in sustainability has resulted in several awards and industry recognitions. These include an EcoVadis Gold medal, which places the company among the top five percent of participating organisations, as well as inclusion in TIME's World's Most Sustainable Companies and Forbes' Net Zero Leaders lists. The company also received a leader ranking in the ISG Provider Lens Sustainability and ESG – IT Solutions and Services Report, and has secured more than 60 workplace-related awards within three years as an independent company.

Employee development and inclusion

The company has reported a doubling of average learning hours for its customer-facing employees year-over-year, focusing particularly on advanced technology training. Kyndryl has also established Kinship @ Kyndryl, a unified team tasked with scaling initiatives geared towards fostering inclusion, belonging, and employee well-being.

The Kyndryl Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm, awarded second-year grants to 12 non-profit organisations across 11 countries. These grants are dedicated to the advancement of cybersecurity and AI skilling programmes, supporting the training of more than 49,000 individuals globally.

Responsible AI and governance

Kyndryl outlined measures to advance its corporate governance and responsible AI strategy. The report notes the implementation of a governance model designed to support the use of AI tools and technologies, which includes providing solutions to its customers in line with responsible AI principles.

The company has also enhanced its AI-driven sustainability services, aimed at helping organisations shape strategy, drive transformation and decarbonisation, and comply with regional and regulatory requirements.
