The New Plymouth district has selected a Juniper solution for its data center renewal and optimisation programme.

The partnership sees New Plymouth District Council deploying EX4200 Ethernet Switches, an SRX240 Services Gateway and a IC4500 Unified Access Control Appliance, with routing, switching and security centrally managed by a Juniper NSMXpress appliance.

The council says it’s responsible for the environmental, social, economic and cultural well-being of more than 70,000 New Plymouth residents.

“Our objective was to provide a solid foundation to support growing business demands from our 500 staff. The design goals included reduced risk, greater simplicity, conformity with best practice standards, and increased availability of services,” said Kevin Glynn, the council’s Manager Information Services.

“We chose the Juniper solution because it offered Junos as a single OS running across the EX and SRX devices and an integrated, centralised approach to network management. In addition, we picked the EX4200 switch for both the core and access layers; thus simplifying design, enhancing scalability and capability, and reducing the requirement for on-site spares.”
