Secure cloud storage and backup vendor appoints NZ distributor
Mon, 3rd Feb 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Local security and memory distributor Duo is taking on a new cloud based backup solution called FileLocker.

The company behind FileLocker is Infrascale, who originally started in Australia and in recent years has relocated its head office to the US. Its solutions are focused on the disaster recovery & backup categories. Its key Data Center is Melbourne based and FileLocker is its first foray into the New Zealand marketplace.

FileLocker is a document sharing, collaboration and backup system. It can be deployed in a public cloud model or the software licensed and run on local systems as a private cloud model. The second private cloud model could see the software white labelled and packaged up by a local system integrator and offered to clients as part of bigger offerings.

Security and extra strong encryption are key advantages of the system. This is achieved through the client on a Windows PC, Mac or mobile device, performing the encryption before the file is uploaded. This means that passwords for the file are never known or held by FileLocker.

The system has some unique abilities around backing up attachments from Microsoft’s SharePoint, but much of its uniqueness comes down local data storage. It’s faster to access and not bound by the US government’s surveillance legislations.
