Broadcom unveils VMware Cloud Foundation enhancements

Today

Broadcom announced new enhancements to VMware Cloud Foundation, featuring advanced services and expanded ecosystem partnerships.

The newly unveiled features are designed to expedite developments in generative AI applications, enhance cybersecurity measures, and promote the adoption of sovereign cloud solutions. VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) provides a private cloud platform that aims to combine the scale and agility of public cloud with private cloud security and performance.

"Broadcom is enabling the private cloud everywhere with VMware Cloud Foundation," said Krish Prasad, Senior Vice President and General Manager, VCF Division at Broadcom. "Through a private cloud platform and portfolio of Advanced Services that are ubiquitous, flexible, and secure, we are unlocking the promise of AI in the enterprise, delivering new levels of organizational resilience, and supporting the privacy and digital sovereignty demands of customers around the world."

The IPZS, the Italian Mint and Printing Institute, has successfully deployed the Italian version of the European Digital Identity Wallet initiative using VMware Cloud Foundation. "IPZS created a new modern Digital Application Platform using VMware Cloud Foundation," said Paolo Bazzica, Chief Information Officer of IPZS. "This has enabled faster and more secure software development, deployment, and maintenance, ensuring the reliability and scalability of Italy's EUDI Wallet."

On the operational side, VCF offers support for running enterprise-grade applications both via virtual machines and containerized solutions. According to Onno van den Berg, Mission Critical Engineer at Schuberg Philis, "VCF offers an efficient, out-of-the-box experience, providing a flexible, scalable, and resilient solution. With many of our customers already utilizing VMware-based platforms for their workloads, migrations are streamlined and straightforward."

Broadcom also introduced VMware Tanzu Data Services for VMware Cloud Foundation. This service aims to simplify the deployment, management, and consumption of crucial data services like databases, messaging, and caching. The integration with VCF aims to enhance operational efficiency and aid in the deployment of microservices and other modern application architectures.

In terms of security, VMware Live Recovery will now support Google Cloud VMware Engine as a target environment for cyber and disaster recovery of VCF workloads. "Building on Google Cloud's support for VMware Cloud Foundation license portability, our expanded services now offer yet another important choice for customers to address their modern cyber- and disaster-recovery needs," said Mark Lohmeyer, Vice President and General Manager of Compute and AI Infrastructure at Google Cloud.

VMware vDefend Advanced Service now incorporates GenAI-based intelligent assistance to aid IT security teams in effectively managing sophisticated threat campaigns, leading to improved situational awareness and quicker remediation processes.

Broadcom also revealed plans to support Microsoft's Azure AI Video Indexer on VMware Cloud Foundation through its Private AI strategy. This move is set to facilitate rapid innovation and application of AI projects, allowing Azure AI Video Indexer to function across various business environments.

The company has committed to further investments in its Private Cloud Modernization Programme, aiming to assist businesses in their transition to private cloud solutions using VMware Cloud Foundation by providing expert guidance and resources.

In addition, Broadcom introduced a new VMware Certified Professional - VCF Architect certification. This certification is intended for individuals who can design VMware Cloud Foundation solutions that satisfy both business and technical demands, covering aspects like availability, manageability, performance, and security.

Sovereign cloud services are also in focus, with 50 VMware Cloud Service Providers offering these services based on VCF, including support for data privacy and security features tailored to meet the confidentiality requirements in various jurisdictions. "With VMware Cloud Foundation, we are able to leverage a complete cloud infrastructure and management platform so that we can offer a dedicated sovereign cloud service," said Eric Chambriard, Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Sales at OVHcloud.
