ESET upgrades offer chance to get back in front of customers
Wed, 3rd Dec 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

ESET has given its resellers the chance to get back in front of customers, with the release of new versions of its home user products, ESET Smart Security 8 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 8.

Geoff Cossey, Chilisoft director, says the release of any new versions of security software is always a good excuse for resellers to get in touch with their customers, ensure they're aware of the new version, and offer help if customers need assistance.

“Particularly as the risks and threats get more sophisticated, it's important customers stay up-to-date with their security software,” Cossey says.

The new ESET releases, which are free during the license period, include botnet protection and enhanced exploit blocking.

ESET says Smart Security 8 antivirus and internet security's addition of botnet protection provides a specific added layer of security against being misused to send out spam or launch denial of service (DOS) attacks or hack attacks on remote servers and networks.

“A botnet infection possibly won't damage its host computer, but it will silently participate in botnet attacks, which are networks of infected computers, controlled by a remote attacker,” ESET says.

Meanwhile exploit blocker, in both Smart Security and NOD32 Antivirus provides enhanced protection against a range of application software exploits, such as those attacking web browsers, PDF readers, email clients, MS Office components and Java.

During a recent visit to New Zealand, Juraj Malcho, ESET chief research officer, revealed that the top 50 New Zealand threats differ considerably from the top 50 global threats.

Cossey says that's because malware writers know they need to be more targeted in order to maximise the gains they get from the malware.

“So that means it's even more important to keep on top of upgrades,” he notes.

ESET will release its next generation business products in February.
