Lenovo unveils Legion 9i with 3D display for creators & gamers
Lenovo has announced the launch of the Legion 9i (18", 10), a gaming laptop targeting both gamers and creators including developers, AI engineers, and designers.
The new Legion 9i (18", 10) features high-spec hardware and next-generation AI software intended to deliver performance for demanding gaming titles as well as game development tasks.
Jun Ouyang, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Segment, Intelligent Devices Group at Lenovo, said: "The most powerful gaming laptops deliver seamless performance even with the most demanding titles, and the new Lenovo Legion 9i (18", 10) laptop is designed to set a new standard. Built with top-tier hardware and next-generation AI software innovations, it combines exceptional speed and intelligence — not just for immersive gaming, but also to empower game developers, AI engineers, and designers with the high performance and optional 2K 3D support they need to bring their visions to life."
The laptop includes an 18" PureSight display offering up to 4K resolution in 2D, and optional 2K 3D support. The 3D feature employs eye-tracking and a lenticular lens array, allowing users engaged in 3D modelling to view work without the need for glasses or a specialised external 3D display. Additionally, Lenovo 3D Studio provides support for a variety of video, image, and streaming formats as well as 3D display compatibility for 30 games and assorted creative applications.
Dual Mode functionality is available, enabling users to switch from a 240Hz refresh rate at 4K to as high as 440Hz at FHD, according to requirements for display speed. The device's display offers a 93% screen-to-body ratio, with minimal bezels around the viewing area.
AI plays a substantial role in the Legion 9i (18", 10), with the Lenovo AI Core chip and Lenovo AI Engine+ working together to automatically modify settings depending on user scenarios and prioritising performance for gaming or creative workloads. AI-based functionalities also extend to Lenovo Legion Space software, which incorporates dynamic RGB synchronisation with in-game sound and content, as well as a six-speaker sound system intended to deepen user immersion.
AI tools within the Legion Space application include the Game Coach, Game Clip Master, and Game Companion, offering skill improvement tips, seamless content creation and editing for social sharing, and in-game assistance and encouragement.
With four slots each for RAM and SSDs—one being PCIe Gen 5—the laptop can support up to 192GB dual channel DDR5 RAM and up to 8TB of NVMe storage, designed to meet the demands of advanced creative workflows and large game libraries. The Legion 9i (18", 10) operates with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU, offering a combined power load of up to 280W.
Thermal management is provided by the Legion Coldfront: Vapor thermal system, which incorporates a vapor chamber, hyper chamber, quad fan system, and individual cooling for the Wi-Fi module, SSD, and RAM. This cooling design is intended to keep the device noise under 48dB during heavy use at full performance mode.
The laptop lid is constructed of eight layers of hand-applied aviation-grade carbon fibre, making each device unique in appearance and providing a lighter yet stronger finish compared to aluminium. Connectivity options include HDMI and DC-in ports at the back, and multiple ports on either side, such as two Thunderbolt 5 ports for high-speed transfers and device charging.
The Legion 9i (18", 10) is expected to be available starting June 2025, pricing hasn't been confirmed for Australia or New Zealand yet.
Lenovo has also introduced the Legion 18" Armored Backpack II, tailored for gamers needing portability and protection for large-format laptops. The backpack provides a molded EVA front shield, double-layered protection within the computer compartment, and designated, quick-access pockets for gaming peripherals.
Additional gamer-focused offerings include three complimentary months of PC Game Pass upon laptop purchase, and eligibility for Legion Ultimate Support in select markets, offering technical assistance and performance optimisation. Lenovo's CO2 Offset Services are also offered, allowing users to offset the estimated device lifecycle carbon emissions by purchasing credits supporting environmental initiatives verified by organisations such as the United Nations and Gold Standard.
