Mid-sized businesses drive growth, says MYOB research
New research from the MYOB Discover Live conference has highlighted the crucial role of mid-sized businesses in advancing New Zealand's economic productivity.
The study suggests that these firms are adopting automation, bolstering supply chains, and enhancing capabilities, frequently supported by MYOB Acumatica, according to Juanita Potgieter, Group Marketing Manager for Verde Group New Zealand. "The bigger picture is clear: mid-sized firms are primed to help New Zealand realise its economic potential," Potgieter stated. "There's no question we're experiencing tough economic times, but many are seeing opportunity – and a good deal of that opportunity lies in harnessing better technology either directly within or adjacent to their Enterprise Resource Planning systems."
During the MYOB Discover Live event, insights were provided on the contribution of mid-sized businesses. These organisations, defined by MYOB as having 20-500 full-time employees and generating over NZD $5 million annually, were seen to combine sufficient revenue with the agility to rapidly implement change. The vendor's 'Bigger Picture' report indicated this group's commitment to modernisation, expansion, and development as key to their achievements.
Potgieter discussed the impact seen by Verde's Avanza Solutions, an MYOB Acumatica specialist within Verde Group. This business has witnessed direct advantages for its customers like Camex Civil, thanks to technological advancements. "By front-footing automation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable manufacturing, we're seeing these companies play to their natural advantages," Potgieter said. "Many are seeing opportunity in adversity and have the wherewithal to take advantage of emerging technologies without the sandbagging that can slow larger organisations."
The MYOB Acumatica platform has introduced several AI features in collaboration with Thoughtworks and AWS, such as AI Automation, AI Advisor, and AI Assistant, focusing on enhancing efficiency by targeting repetitive tasks. Potgieter commented that partnerships with these firms position MYOB Acumatica strongly within the mid-enterprise ERP sector. "The partnerships with AWS and Thoughtworks position MYOB Acumatica as a leader in mid-enterprise ERP, delivering tools that empower businesses to grow smarter and faster," she noted.
The accolades for MYOB Acumatica included its top ranking in the iStart ERP Buyer's Guide 2025-26 as the leading ERP choice for businesses across ANZ. Avanza Solutions was further acknowledged as a finalist for the Customer Excellence Award, reflecting its strong regional presence. Additionally, Kyla Lambly, General Manager of Finance at Camex Civil, was a finalist for awards recognising contributions in technology and business. Lambly shared her experience with MYOB Acumatica, recommending early implementation for potential users. "Do it sooner!" she advised. "The longer you withhold data from your team, the more you risk losing good practices around understanding the financial and CRM aspects of your business."
Engaging discussions at the event featured prominent industry figures such as John Case, CEO of Acumatica, and Paul Robson, CEO of MYOB, who explored themes around leadership and innovation. The conference's keynote address by Adam Spencer on 'How the AI Revolution is Changing Work and Business Forever' also captured significant attention.
MYOB Discover Live emphasised Avanza Solutions' ongoing support for mid-sized businesses. Potgieter remarked, "Our customers like Camex Civil are proof of what's possible when ambition meets the right technology. And for our teams, there's little more satisfying than delivering real economic impact. We're looking forward to supporting our clients in harnessing AI and ERP advancements to shape a future where mid-sized businesses lead the way."
