Spark leads New Zealand internet rankings for 2024-2025

The latest nPerf report on fixed internet connections in New Zealand ranks Spark first in overall connection quality from Q2 2024 to Q1 2025.

The nPerf score, expressed in nPoints, places Spark at the top with a total of 117,844 points. This score reflects the combined performance indicators of download and upload speeds, latency, browsing efficiency, and video streaming quality. Spark's results include a download bitrate of 187.7 Mbps, an upload bitrate of 150.7 Mbps, a latency of 18.9 ms, along with a browsing rate of 63.7% and a video streaming rate of 86.7%. Notably, Spark showed a 15.8% increase in browsing performance compared to the previous period.

2degrees secured the second position with 113,424 points, reporting a download bitrate of 241.9 Mbps, an upload bitrate of 132.7 Mbps, and a latency of 21.4 ms. The company also achieved a browsing rate of 59.1% and a video streaming rate of 84.9%.

Following closely, One NZ stood third with a total score of 106,689 points. Their results included a download bitrate of 183.5 Mbps, an upload bitrate of 101.0 Mbps, latency measuring 25.5 ms, a browsing rate of 60.4%, and a video streaming rate of 83.9%.

Data for this analysis was drawn from 20,135 tests conducted via the nPerf website and through the nPerf application on both Android and iOS platforms.

"The 2024 measurements show Spark in first position with 117,844 points," says Sébastien de Rosbo, General Manager. "The gap with 2degrees is 4,420 points. One NZ ranks third at 11,155 points from the leader."

In terms of Fibre to the Home (FTTH) performance, 2degrees achieved the highest score in New Zealand, indicating a superior offering in this category. Meanwhile, One NZ was highlighted as providing the best WiFi experience in the country.
