Virtualisation hype 'inching towards reality'
With client virtualisation in New Zealand ready to shift from testing to implementation, opportunities will open up for vendors, resellers and systems integrators, industry analysts IDC are predicting.
In a recently released study, titled Client Virtualisation Special Report: New Zealand, IDC found 40% of organisations are using some sort of virtual desktop infrastructure, and an additional 34.8% are planning to adopt one in the future.
IDC analyst Yee-Kuan Lau says the consumerisation trend will see these cautious tests become commonplace demand by 2014.
"We expect to see the pilot projects that have occurred in recent times start evolving into larger deployments within the next three years,” Lau says.
This will of course create opportunities for vendors and resellers.
"Organisations will need some form of support with the proliferation of different technologies before they can effectively deploy a VDI [Virtual Desktop Infrastructure] solution.
"Systems integrators will be best placed for this task, and they need to work closely with vendors to help end users build a solid business case with a forward-thinking client virtualisation roadmap.”
