Global trendsetters & innovators convene at NetEvents to chew over what's next
Mon, 5th Jun 2017
FYI, this story is more than a year old

NetEvents is currently holding an event in London to announce, preview and discuss the latest thinking, technologies, solutions and opportunities amongst innovators in cloud, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and security.

Senior executives, vendors and media around the globe have congregated to dig deep into the world of cloud computing, Internet of Things, and applied artificial intelligence - in addition to the state of cybersecurity and the mysterious world of the hacker.

In light of recent events such as the WannaCry ransomware and state-sponsored hacking of political campaigns, the opening keynote presentation delved into cybersecurity and what is next.

This came from the point of view from some heavyweights in state intelligence including GCHQ, MI6 and Israeli Intelligence

Brian Lord, Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and former GCHQ deputy director for Intelligence and Cyber Operations spoke about just how straightforward the current environment is for cybercriminals.

“Being a cybercriminal at the moment is essentially like walking into the equivalent of a town centre where all the windows are open, doors are unlocked, shop tills are agape and cars are parked with keys in the ignitions,” says Lord.

However, all three of the speakers are in agreement that the WannaCry outbreak, despite the damage caused, will in the long term be good for cybersecurity as it has helped to publicise the constant and ever present risks.

Obviously there is a lot more to this event than just security, including:

  • How the the Fourth Industrial Revolution is disrupting almost every industry
  • How organisations large and small are exploring (and in some cases embracing) hybrid on-premise/cloud data centers to reduce cost and improve agility
  • How software-defined WAN is using the cloud to challenge traditional WAN technologies like MPLS - despite continuing questions about security
  • How endpoint security has evolved from simple antivirus to today's sophisticated cloud-based platforms
  • How AI can be applied in practical applications, particularly in managing and optimising the Internet of Things

Stay tuned as we will be providing further updates as the event progresses.
