SmartBear introduces GenAI-powered no-code test automation in Zephyr Scale

Mon, 29th Apr 2024

SmartBear, a provider of software development and visibility solutions, has announced the inclusion of GenAI-powered, no-code test automation capabilities in its Jira-native test management system, Zephyr Scale. Debuted at Atlassian Team '24 in Las Vegas, this upgrade empowers testers, inclusive of those lacking technical skills, to seamlessly transform manual tests into automated ones, offering time-saving and efficiency benefits, the company states.

Dan Faulkner, Chief Product Officer at SmartBear, described this as "a groundbreaking approach in test automation”. Following the firm's acquisition of AI-powered provider Reflect, Faulkner stated that SmartBear is "pioneering" in "test management innovation with Zephyr Scale, the first and only Jira-native test management platform to offer this functionality directly within the platform". The strategy enables testers to bypass challenges such as limited time, technical expertise, and resources, thus ensuring a fully traceable testing process.

Zephyr Scale, which has accrued more than 27K installs as one of Atlassian Marketplace's rapidly growing apps, offers comprehensive reporting capabilities. Testers can compile customisable reports and metrics to track progress, identify trends, and inform data-driven decisions. The system is cost-effective and user-friendly, saving an average of over 40 hours per month for each user.

Paul Nashawaty, Practice Lead - Application Development and Modernization at The Futurum Group, commented on the recent advancement. "By extending the robust test management functionalities of Zephyr Scale in Jira with intuitive, codeless GenAI-powered automation capabilities, teams can achieve a seamless, synergistic test workflow that enhances test quality and accelerates software release cycles," he said. Noting the potential of this integration to democratise testing, Nashawaty suggested it could boost efficiency and coverage and lead to a surge in AI adoption in production workloads.

Meeting evolving customer needs, SmartBear is restructuring more than 20 products, including the Test Hub, to simplify user experience. The Test Hub amalgamates management, automation, and execution of all tests in one location, striving for a streamlined method to assure app quality.

The company hosted a webinar, "Preparing Your Team for AI in Test Management," on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Here, the team provided a first glimpse of no-code test automation in Zephyr Scale, equipping attendees with an understanding of AI's productive role in enhancing and streamlining test management.
