SonicWall bolsters cloud security offer with Banyan Security acquisition
Thu, 4th Jan 2024

SonicWall, a global cybersecurity giant, has bolstered its cloud security offerings with the acquisition of Banyan Security. The latter is acknowledged for its proficiency in delivering Security Service Edge (SSE) solutions for the innovative workforce. SonicWall intends its augmented portfolio to support companies ranging from Fortune 100 leaders to small enterprises who are substituting older systems with robust SSE solutions, including Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA).

The focus of cybersecurity is transitioning towards dynamic solutions capable of adapting to the ever-changing spectrum of cloud-based threats. Bob Vankirk, President and CEO of SonicWall, asserted, "For years, firewalls have been the cornerstone of cybersecurity defenses. However, with the rise of cloud computing and secure access service edge (SASE), the industry is shifting its focus to more comprehensive and flexible approaches that include SSE and ZTNA as a necessity."

Together with Banyan Security, SonicWall is confident in their provision of cloud-based Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions that will enable partners to present an adaptable security architecture to their diverse clientele, irrespective of their phase in the cloud journey. More specifically, Banyan's technology extends SonicWall's mandate to the cloud and presents partners' customers with added flexibility, which aligns with SonicWall's future strategy.

Joshua Skeens, CEO of Logically (a highly valued SonicWall partner), remarked, "For decades, SonicWall has played a pivotal role in supporting their partners by delivering leading cybersecurity solutions. They're now extending that to the cloud as the demand for cloud-first strategies is evident. As businesses embark on their cloud journey, they will require hybrid deployments which SonicWall is ideally positioned to provide, and we are excited to be working alongside SonicWall as we empower businesses to thrive in this new era."

As the workplace becomes more scattered with employees operating from homes, virtual offices, and even coffee shops, the process of securing access to critical business applications across complex networks is faced with fresh challenges. To secure this expanding and interconnected access surface, organisations are steadily adopting zero trust models to update their security measures, often as a replacement for legacy architectures.

In the recent past, SonicWall enhanced its position through the acquisition of Solutions Granted, Inc. (SGI), equipping the tech channel with the latest managed detection and response services designed specifically for Managed Service Providers and Managed Security Service Providers. The acquisition of Banyan Security was completed on December 26, 2023, with Moelis & Company acting as SonicWall’s exclusive financial advisor through the process.
