Yahoo appoints Valeri Liborski as new Chief Technology Officer

Thu, 5th Sep 2024

Yahoo has announced the appointment of Valeri Liborski as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), set to lead the company's global engineering team and spearhead its advancements in artificial intelligence. Liborski's professional background includes significant experience at Microsoft, Amazon, and most recently HelloFresh, where he also served as CTO.

Jim Lanzone, CEO of Yahoo, expressed confidence in Liborski's capabilities, particularly highlighting his track record in building robust teams and managing high-scale operations. "It's an understatement to say that technology is the lifeblood of our company, and Val's track record of building great teams to create and manage powerful products and platforms, at the kind of scale in which we operate, made him stand out as the right person to lead Yahoo's engineering organisation into the future," Lanzone stated. He also extended gratitude to Aengus McClean, the outgoing CTO, praising his contributions to the company since its spinout from Verizon in 2021.

Liborski's appointment aligns with Yahoo's multi-year transformational journey, aiming to position the company's engineering capabilities to support its industry-leading properties. At HelloFresh, Liborski had oversight of technology operations and led significant initiatives in engineering, data science, and product development, which facilitated the company's rapid scaling while retaining a strong focus on customer-centricity.

During his decade-long tenure at Amazon, Liborski held various senior roles including Vice President of Technology, where he was instrumental in the expansion of Amazon's retail business across Europe. He also managed Amazon Route 53, a foundational service within Amazon Web Services (AWS). His earlier career at Microsoft involved pivotal contributions to products such as Microsoft TV, Windows, and Microsoft Advertising.

Speaking on his new role, Liborski expressed enthusiasm about joining Yahoo. "Yahoo was one of my first gateways to the internet and continues to be a go-to source in my daily life," said Liborski. "I'm excited to contribute to such an iconic brand and work with the team to develop technology that touches the lives of hundreds of millions of people."

This latest appointment follows the recent addition of Rob Wilk as Chief Revenue Officer in June, indicating a strategic effort by Yahoo to bolster its leadership team. As Liborski steps into his new role, he will report directly to CEO Jim Lanzone.
