Chorus receives Gender Tick, moves toward greater pay equity
Chorus has been awarded the Gender Tick, becoming the first telecommunications firm in New Zealand to pass the assessment criteria required to receive the accreditation.
The Gender Tick is an accreditation for businesses that show commitment to providing a fair workplace for all employees regardless of gender.
"We are very pleased to award the Gender Tick to Chorus," says Dr Kaisa Wilson, director at Gender Tick.
"It is one of the NZX Top 50 companies and is the first telco to achieve Gender Tick certification in New Zealand," Wilson says.
Shaun Philp, Chorus’ general manager of people and culture, says the company has introduced policies focussed on gender and pay equity and the development of female leadership.
Philp says Chorus is committed to closing its gender pay gap by 2022 and has reduced it from 17% in 2017 to 11.6% this year.
At equivalent levels in the organisation, there is no gap greater than 3.9%. Chorus will continue to publish progress made in its annual report.
“We are delighted to have been awarded the Gender Tick and couldn’t have done it without the support of our board and executive team who truly believe in the importance of equality in the workplace,” Philp says.
“Chorus is creating an environment where everyone has equal opportunity and feels they belong regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, race or background," he says.
“Equality is integral to culture and the Gender Tick is symbolic of that. We’ll continue to champion diversity, inclusion and equality at Chorus,” says Philp.
