HPE Storage hones in on cloud-native, software-defined data services
Wed, 5th May 2021
FYI, this story is more than a year old

HPE Storage is undergoing a transformation to become an entirely cloud-native, software-defined data services business, and the company has unveiled a new data services platform as part of this transformation.

Unveiled this week, HPE Storage will offer the data services platform through HPE GreenLake. The platform will include a cloud console, a suite of cloud data subscription service, and a cloud-native data infrastructure portfolio.

According to the company, the data services platform will address the ‘data explosion' across edge and cloud, and it will also remove siloes and complexity from organisations.

HPE president and CEO Antonio Neri says, “Organisations face a complex web of fragmented hardware, software, and manual processes, making it difficult for them to compete and innovate in a constantly changing marketplace.

He adds that the company is delivering on its strategy to deliver a unified and consistent cloud experience.

Unified DataOps is one way in which HPE plans to deliver this strategy. The company says it will integrate data-centric policies, cloud-native control, and AI-driven insights to simplify data management and infrastructure.

HPE Storage senior vice president and general manager Tom Black says, “HPE is changing the storage game by bringing a full cloud operational model to our customers' on-premises environments.

“Bringing the cloud operational model to where data lives accelerates digital transformation, streamlines data management, and will help our customers innovate faster than ever before.

Under the unified DataOps umbrella, HPE is offering three distinct platforms and services.

Data Services Cloud Console offers cloud operations and unified data operations as a service. It offers a unified API for HPE-based application automation, as well as partner and custom-built data services.

Cloud data services are delivered through the Cloud Console. These include HPE Data Ops Manager for data infrastructure management and a suite of software subscription services.

HPE Alletra is a cloud-native data infrastructure for edge and cloud. It is managed by the Data Services Cloud Console and also includes a portfolio of workload-optimised systems comprising All-NVMe HPE Alletra 9000 and 6000 systems.

IDC's enterprise infrastructure, cloud, developers, and alliance senior vice president Matt Eastwood says data is flooding organisations and it is getting harder to manage this flow.

“HPE's vision and strategy for Unified DataOps is promising as it takes an original approach to solving this burgeoning problem.

Data Services Cloud Console, cloud data services, and HPE Alletra will be available for order globally direct and through channel partners from May 2021.
