Tue, 16th Sep 2025

Peter Nelson has been appointed as the new Managing Director for Datacom New Zealand and will assume the role in October 2025.

Nelson is currently the Managing Director of Datacom's software-as-a-service (SaaS) Products and brings more than a decade of experience within the company, having held several senior and strategic positions. Over the past 11 years, Nelson has led growth in Professional Services, established businesses in integration and digital experience, and more recently managed the SaaS Products portfolio, which includes the Datascape and Datapay solutions.

Greg Davidson, Chief Executive Officer of Datacom Group, stated that strong leadership is essential to achieving the company's ambitions in New Zealand. Davidson affirmed the rationale behind Nelson's appointment whilst expressing confidence in the future direction under his stewardship.

"New Zealand is a critical part of our growth strategy and it's important we have strong leadership in place to match the scale of our ambition, which is why we have chosen to fill Justin's shoes with a proven leader.
"Peter's appointment will help us reach the ambitious goals we have set for ourselves and I'm looking forward to seeing the impact he'll make for our organisation and for our customers," says Greg Davidson, CEO, Datacom Group.

Peter Nelson reflected on his promotion and outlined his eagerness to build on the momentum Datacom has established within New Zealand. He emphasised his commitment to navigating advances in technology, particularly the ongoing changes brought about by artificial intelligence (AI), in a way that aligns with local market needs.

"Through my time leading the SaaS business, I've seen first-hand the impact our people and platforms have on customers, communities and the wider industry. "As we enter a new chapter shaped by the rapid evolution of AI, I'm excited to support our team, our customers and our partners in navigating this change with clarity, purpose and a distinctly New Zealand approach, creating and implementing solutions that are right for our market.
"I'm proud to take on the role of MD for Datacom New Zealand – a company deeply rooted in our local communities and committed to helping them thrive. Technology has the power to unlock real progress, and I'm excited to work alongside our talented team and partners to deliver solutions that make a difference for New Zealand organisations. As AI reshapes our industry, we have a unique opportunity to lead with purpose, support our people, and build a future that reflects the best of Aotearoa."

Outgoing Managing Director, Justin Gray, will remain with Datacom until the end of the year in order to facilitate a smooth leadership transition. The company confirmed that Gray's involvement is intended to ensure operational continuity during the handover period.

Nelson's appointment comes as Datacom continues its focus on technology-driven service delivery and enhanced capabilities in digital solutions, supporting customers across various sectors in New Zealand and the wider region.

The change in leadership is part of Datacom's stated approach to maintain alignment with its strategic objectives, as well as to address the rapidly changing landscape in information technology. As AI continues to influence business operations, leadership at Datacom has signalled its intention to provide guidance and support for customers adapting to new technological paradigms.
