Powertec Telecommunications has launched the CEL-FI ROAM R41-VB mobile booster for use on Spark New Zealand's mobile network. The device is approved for Spark NZ customers.

Made by Nextivity and distributed by Powertec, the product is aimed at New Zealand users who struggle with weak mobile reception. It is designed to improve existing Spark mobile signals for voice and data use in vehicles, small homes, and apartments.

Poor indoor and in-transit mobile coverage remains a persistent issue for some users, particularly in areas where signal strength is inconsistent. The new booster enters the market as carriers and equipment providers look for ways to address blackspots without major changes to network infrastructure.

The unit meets Spark's carrier requirements and is designed to amplify signals without interfering with the mobile network when installed correctly. It also automatically adjusts its operation to improve coverage in the immediate area.

Target market

Its focus on vehicles and smaller residential settings places the product in the consumer and small-user segment rather than in large commercial buildings. That distinguishes it from broader in-building coverage systems often used in offices, public venues, and industrial sites.

Powertec operates across Australia and New Zealand in wireless communications, spanning mobile coverage equipment, wireless infrastructure, and related connectivity products. San Diego-based Nextivity develops the CEL-FI range of cellular coverage products for business, public safety, and consumer use.

The launch also highlights the role of carrier-approved signal-boosting equipment in regulated mobile markets. Devices in this category must operate within operator requirements because poorly configured boosters can create network interference and affect nearby users.

Paul Boyce, Product Manager at Powertec Telecommunications, described the product as a response to everyday coverage problems faced by mobile users.

"Reliable mobile connectivity is essential whether you're travelling, working remotely, or staying connected at home," Boyce said.

He said the product is intended to give Spark users a straightforward way to improve reception.

"CEL-FI ROAM R41-VB offers Spark NZ customers a simple and effective way to enhance their mobile signal and improve their overall mobile experience," Boyce said.

The device is available through Powertec and its authorised reseller network.
