RAD launches video urging corporate laptop donations in NZ
Recycle A Device (RAD) has launched a new video that sheds light on how corporate laptop donations can help bridge the digital divide in New Zealand. The two-minute video aims to encourage businesses to donate their used laptops, which can be refurbished and utilised for educational and job opportunities, among other purposes.
RAD's initiative comes in response to statistics indicating that while over 300,000 laptops are purchased annually by businesses and government sectors in New Zealand, many are replaced after just three to five years. Concurrently, more than 100,000 Kiwi students lack access to a laptop, hindering their ability to fully participate in the digital world.
The new video demonstrates how companies can make a substantial difference by donating their used laptops to RAD. These laptops are then refurbished and distributed to individuals in need, addressing both digital inequality and environmental sustainability. The initiative also contributes to tech education development by training young people in refurbishing skills.
"If just 100,000 of the 300,000 laptops purchased each year were donated, we could significantly reduce the digital divide in New Zealand," said Bronnie Scott, General Manager of RAD. "We are calling on all businesses to consider the profound impact their old laptops can have."
By extending the life of technology through donations, RAD not only helps those who lack access to digital tools but also prevents e-waste. The organisation's efforts align with broader sustainability goals, encouraging the responsible use and disposal of electronic devices.
