FYI, this story is more than a year old

Samsung Electronics has unveiled the new Galaxy XCover Pro, a smartphone for frontline workers across a variety of industries.

The enterprise-focussed XCover Pro delivers a rugged device for both field and customer-facing settings.

It builds on Samsung Galaxy smartphones' legacy features, including protection by Samsung Knox security platform, and is enhanced with partner-enabled mobility solutions for use in a wide range of business scenarios, including the ability to integrate the newly announced walkie talkie capability in Microsoft Teams.

"The Galaxy XCover Pro is a result of the increased investment and commitment Samsung is making to the Enterprise and Government market," says Samsung Electronics Australia mobile division enterprise and government head Danny Mandrides.

"Samsung is further extending business ready mobility solutions in 2020 with the launch of Galaxy XCover Pro, a smartphone designed for the demanding conditions of business users who need to operate in a range of tough environments.

"Microsoft and Samsung have a long history of bringing together the best possible hardware and software to help solve our customers' challenges. The powerful combination of Microsoft Teams and the Galaxy XCover Pro builds on this partnership and will enable workforce transformation with the technology they need to be more collaborative, productive and secure. This product is a major step for Samsung in extending our support to customers and partners in Australia and we look forward to launching the XCover Pro in market imminently.

The device is IP68 water and dust resistant, capable of withstanding drops of up to 1.5m without a case, and is MIL-STD 810G certified for protection against extreme altitude, humidity, and other severe environmental conditions.

It includes pogo pin charging support and compatibility with third-party charging docks, as well as a replaceable 4,050mAh battery.

Additionally, the two programmable keys allow custom actions with one click, letting users open the scanner, turn on the flashlight or launch a CRM app.

The phone will also have Samsung POS, a mobile-based point of sale solution that has been approved by Visa's Tap to Phone pilot program.

This joint solution removes the need for a dedicated POS hardware with a software solution that is reliable, convenient and secure.

Tap to Phone's software terminal builds on EMV chip transaction to generate the same functionality while giving peace of mind and assurance that financial data remains safe and secure. Customers will be able to make payments by tapping their contactless card, phone or watch to the XCover Pro.

"Microsoft and Samsung have a deep history of bringing together the best hardware and software to help solve our customers' challenges," adds Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

"The powerful combination of Microsoft Teams and the new Galaxy XCover Pro builds on this partnership and will provide first-line workers everywhere with the technology they need to be more collaborative, productive and secure.
