Sharp New Zealand buys Securecom to boost IT services

Wed, 4th Mar 2026

Sharp New Zealand has acquired Securecom, a New Zealand-owned managed IT and security services provider, widening Sharp's presence in managed services and cyber security.

The deal adds Securecom's managed services operation to Sharp's local business, which has traditionally focused on office and workplace technology such as multifunction print devices, commercial displays, and related software systems. It also signals a shift in Sharp New Zealand's positioning as customers increasingly bundle device, network, and security support.

Managing Director Jan Nicol-Winitana called the acquisition a strategic step and a change in direction for Sharp's local offering.

"This transaction strengthens our market position, expands our technical capabilities, and supports our long-term stability and growth strategy. Importantly, it enhances our ability to deliver to our customers IT services that are essential for today's businesses to increase productivity and remain competitive, including cloud-based solutions, cyber security, network infrastructure and managed supply services. It also reflects our company strapline - 'in step with your future' - which is about our ambition to build value-based relationships with our customers, supporting them and being by their side as they navigate the fast pace of change in today's market.

"As we introduce IT services into our business, we shift from being historically a traditional print and copier business to a more unified technology partner for our customers," Nicol-Winitana said.

Securecom has operated for more than two decades, providing end-to-end IT services for organisations across multiple sectors. Its work includes managed network, security, and cloud services. The business also runs an Integrated Operations Centre, providing around-the-clock monitoring and operational support.

Operations and leadership

Securecom's Auckland-based operation will continue without structural or operational changes. Managing Director Greg Mikkelsen will continue to lead the business.

"We are delighted to be moving forward with Sharp. The opportunity to leverage the benefits of its global scale to add value to our local customers is an exciting proposition. The alignment of Sharp's values and customer-focused approach made them a very natural choice to power the next phase of our growth. This investment by Sharp demonstrates a strong commitment to the New Zealand business community and we look forward to working together for the benefit of our people, our customers, and our partners," Mikkelsen said.

The transaction also changes governance. Nicol-Winitana has been appointed Chair of Securecom, replacing Chris New. New will move into a board advisory position during the transition.

"The Securecom brand, powered by Sharp, is now well positioned for accelerated growth," New said. "I'm looking forward to continuing my association with the business and contributing to this exciting new chapter in Securecom's story."

Securecom will adopt a refreshed brand identity with the byline 'Powered by Sharp'. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Managed services push

The acquisition brings a managed services provider into Sharp's New Zealand operations, expanding the range of services it can sell and manage locally. For customers, this typically means a single supplier can take responsibility for a broader set of workplace technology needs, from devices to infrastructure and security monitoring.

Sharp said it assessed cultural and values alignment during the process, with employee engagement and customer satisfaction as key areas of focus.

"Securecom consistently demonstrates high levels of customer satisfaction and strong customer and employee retention, which closely aligns with Sharp's culture and ethos," Nicol-Winitana said. "We share a common philosophy that our teams are not simply service or product providers, but trusted advisors. We also recognise that Securecom's deep local market knowledge and established customer relationships are critical foundations for our combined future growth."

The deal also has implications for Sharp's wider regional structure. Sharp New Zealand is the first Sharp subsidiary in the Asia-Pacific region to integrate a managed services provider into its operations, according to the company. Sharp described the acquisition as part of broader investment in technology services across its global group.

"We are delighted to have the full support and confidence of our parent company to make it a successful initiative for both the Sharp and Securecom businesses," Nicol-Winitana said. "As technology continues to transform the way organisations operate, it is essential we evolve with it."

Sharp's parent company is Sharp Corporation of Japan, headquartered in Osaka. In New Zealand, Sharp sells business technology products and related software systems; the Securecom acquisition signals a greater emphasis on recurring IT services delivered from Securecom's Auckland base and its 24/7 operations centre.
