SUSE extends VMware Cloud partnership
SUSE has extended its partnership with VMware to make SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware available through VMware vCloud Hybrid Service.
Following the deal, the company says customers have already taken advantage of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware,, which runs virtualised Linux workloads in their data centers.
Those customers will have the option when executing their cloud strategy of running their workloads on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in the VMware vCloud Hybrid Service, giving them greater flexibility for optimising their IT resources.
“Extending our partnership with VMware into the cloud is a boon for enterprise customers,” says Michael Miller, vice president of global alliances and marketing, SUSE.
“SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is an ideal guest operating system for running Linux workloads in any virtual environment, notably VMware. Customers will be able to get these same benefits through VMware vCloud Hybrid Service.”
Since 2010, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware has been the only enterprise Linux distribution optimised and bundled with VMware vSphere. Its maintenance costs are included in the cost of a customer's VMware vSphere support agreement for data center deployments.
“We are pleased to work with SUSE to make their SUSE Linux Enterprise Server subscription licenses available on VMware vCloud Hybrid Service," says Mathew Lodge, vice president of Cloud Services, VMware.
"Today's announcement from SUSE is another example of how our ongoing collaboration with partners can provide customers with easy access to proven enterprise server solutions.”
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware vCloud Hybrid Service will be available in the fourth quarter.
