Westcon-Comstor has been certified as a Great Place To Work in New Zealand, based on employee survey feedback.

The certification in New Zealand forms part of a wider result covering 25 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. Employees in New Zealand gave strong scores on measures linked to colleague support, inclusion and onboarding.

Great Place To Work describes itself as an authority on workplace culture and employee experience. Its certification process relies on confidential employee feedback about their experience at work.

Westcon-Comstor is a distributor focused on cybersecurity, networking and hybrid cloud products. It has a presence in more than 50 countries and works with resellers, systems integrators and service providers through its Westcon, Comstor and Rebura business lines.

In New Zealand, Westcon-Comstor has emphasised programmes aimed at staff engagement, recognition and career development as the local technology sector continues to face skills shortages and retention pressures. These measures include leadership development, structured career pathways, flexible working arrangements and staff recognition schemes.

The latest survey results showed that 80% of employees globally said Westcon-Comstor is a great place to work. The company also recorded a Trust Index of 77%, unchanged from the previous year.

Other global findings pointed to high scores for workplace treatment and employee experience. More than 90% of employees said they are treated fairly at work, while 89% said they were made to feel welcome when they joined and could take time off when necessary. The survey also found that 85% of respondents felt proud to tell others they work for the company, contributing to a leadership effectiveness index of 78%.

Local culture

The New Zealand business said the result reflected employees' views of day-to-day working life rather than an assessment based on external criteria alone. It also linked the recognition to its efforts to retain staff in a competitive labour market.

"We're incredibly proud to be recognised as a Great Place To Work here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. What makes this especially meaningful is that it comes directly from our people," said Dave Rosenberg, Managing Director, Westcon-Comstor New Zealand.

"We've worked hard to build a culture where everyone feels valued, supported and connected, and it's great to see that reflected in this feedback. A huge thank you to our team for bringing that culture to life every day - because when our people thrive, we're able to deliver stronger outcomes for our partners and customers," Rosenberg said.

Westcon-Comstor also published comments from employees in New Zealand pointing to a supportive workplace and opportunities for career progression. Those remarks echoed the company's focus on inclusion, development and internal mobility.

"Everyone has been so welcoming and supportive from day one, and there's a genuine culture of people looking out for each other and wanting everyone to do well. It really is a place where you can be yourself and feel included, no matter where you're based," said Kaitlin McLaughlan, Account Manager, Westcon-Comstor New Zealand.

"Westcon-Comstor has given me opportunities to grow from a graduate into the role I have today by continually supporting my development, broadening my skills and encouraging me to take on new challenges," McLaughlan said.

Broader picture

The New Zealand certification sits within the company's broad international footprint. Alongside New Zealand, the business received certification in markets across Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America.

That list includes China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam in Asia, as well as Austria, Italy, Portugal and Spain in Europe. It also includes Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa, together with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

For employers in the technology sector, workplace recognition has become part of a broader contest for skills as companies seek to retain experienced staff and attract new hires. In that context, survey-based certifications are often used as a public signal of culture, flexibility and career prospects.

Westcon-Comstor said its employee experience supports service delivery for partners and customers by helping teams stay engaged and motivated. The company argued that this, in turn, supports stronger technical knowledge and longer-term commercial relationships.

"Westcon-Comstor has given me opportunities to grow from a graduate into the role I have today by continually supporting my development, broadening my skills and encouraging me to take on new challenges," said Vikesh Lala, APAC Data Analytics Manager, Westcon-Comstor New Zealand.
