AltTab appoints Pienaar to lead new data security practice

Wed, 4th Jun 2025

AltTab has appointed Herman Pienaar as Principal Security Consultant to expand its cybersecurity services with a particular focus on data security.

Pienaar brings over 25 years of experience in the IT sector, encompassing roles ranging from systems engineering to cybersecurity and information management. His career began at the New Zealand-based internet service provider ihug, where he acquired deep technical proficiency in systems repair and network troubleshooting.

Over subsequent years, Pienaar specialised in data protection, contributing to projects involving backup and recovery architecture, archival strategies, and complex data migration. His move to Australia in 2011 marked a shift towards advanced data security and cyber resilience, where he supported enterprise organisations in developing security-driven architectures aimed at regulatory compliance and resistance to evolving security threats.

Recent projects undertaken by Pienaar have centred on securing data across hybrid cloud environments. He has worked extensively with modern security frameworks and implemented zero trust principles to help organisations protect sensitive assets against emerging cyber risks.

In his position at AltTab, Pienaar will be responsible for heading the establishment of a specialised Data Security practice. His remit includes developing scalable and compliant security solutions to address varied client requirements. The company anticipates that his guidance will add substantial value to AltTab's cybersecurity portfolio, providing clients with strengthened capabilities to safeguard critical business data.

Simon Rose, Director and Co-Founder of AltTab, commented on the appointment: "We are excited to welcome Herman to the team. His deep technical expertise, customer-first mindset, and passion for pragmatic security solutions make him a natural fit for our team and instrumental in strengthening our cybersecurity capabilities."

AltTab, founded in 2023 by Charles Paramananthan and Simon Rose and headquartered in Brisbane, has expanded to a workforce of 20 professionals offering a spectrum of ICT and cyber security services. The company credits its growth to a focus on meeting complex technological challenges, providing tailored client solutions, and maintaining proactive support to ensure organisations are prepared for emerging technologies.

Pienaar's appointment is regarded as a strategic step as AltTab continues its trajectory in the managed service provider and systems integrator market. The addition is expected to contribute to the company's ongoing efforts to deliver comprehensive cybersecurity solutions to its clientele.

AltTab has stated that it looks forward to the contributions Pienaar will bring both to the team and its clients, aimed at reinforcing its position within the cybersecurity sector.
