AoFrio unveils energy-efficient AoFrio INSIDE for refrigeration

Fri, 30th Aug 2024

AoFrio has introduced AoFrio INSIDE, a refrigeration solution that aims to significantly reduce energy use and carbon emissions in the commercial refrigeration sector.

AoFrio, a company headquartered in New Zealand, designed this product to propel the industry towards achieving Net-Zero goals.

The new solution, AoFrio INSIDE, is equipped with high-efficiency hardware and software that has been independently verified to deliver up to 64% in energy savings compared to standard refrigeration systems. According to AoFrio, the solution offers a connected ecosystem where customers can gain real-time insights into their assets' energy consumption and remotely manage their fleets for optimal efficiency.

The refrigeration sector is a notable contributor to climate change, accounting for 10% of global carbon emissions. Cooling technologies alone consume 17% of the world's total electricity usage. This underscores the urgent need for sustainable practices within the industry. Leading global beverage companies now include environmental metrics in their annual reports to address this need for greater sustainability.

Greg Balla, CEO of AoFrio, highlighted the key benefits of the AoFrio INSIDE solution. "AoFrio INSIDE is a game-changer. It contributes to potential energy savings of up to 64%, significantly reduces carbon emissions, and provides real-time reporting and actionable insights on further improvements."

"This solution empowers our customers to reduce their environmental impact and enhance their profitability. Refrigeration is much more than keeping food and drinks at the optimal serving temperature; it's about driving a more sustainable industry for generations to come."

One of the critical features of AoFrio INSIDE is its connected ecosystem, which allows real-time monitoring and reporting. Customers can quickly identify coolers that are consuming energy outside their usual operating range, determine the cause of the issue remotely, and take corrective actions. These data-driven insights are expected to help accelerate efforts towards achieving Net-Zero goals by providing precise energy usage data and associated carbon emission reductions.

Furthermore, AoFrio INSIDE leverages AI-powered actionable insights for long-term benefits, making it a forward-looking solution in the highly competitive market. The system's ability to integrate machine learning enables ongoing improvements in performance, thus ensuring it remains relevant and effective over time.

AoFrio INSIDE has also gained international recognition. Last year, it won the Incremental Change in Energy Efficiency category at The Cool Challenge, an initiative led by the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER). The product is also a finalist in two categories in the upcoming RAC Cooling Awards 2024: Refrigeration Innovation of the Year and Refrigeration Product of the Year.

Greg Balla further explained the wider implications of the solution, noting its potential for broad adoption given the industry's scale. "With millions of coolers manufactured annually, we see significant potential for AoFrio INSIDE to be rapidly and widely adopted. We observe a growing trend toward the ability to view and report real-time energy consumption and carbon emissions, which enhances accuracy and meets stricter reporting demands."

"Additionally, there is increasing recognition of the need to optimise fleets and reduce costs by using remote management software to cut down on site visits. Several AoFrio customers are already leveraging these features, and we anticipate many more will fully embrace the solution."

The company aims to lead the charge towards a more sustainable and efficient food and beverage industry. With over 2.7 million coolers connected to its cloud and over eight years of data, AoFrio asserts its position as a leader in the commercial refrigeration market, developing and manufacturing cutting-edge, sustainable solutions.

Currently, prominent global beverage brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Heineken are already utilising AoFrio's technology to manage their fleets of commercial bottle coolers. The company's mission aligns with the broader need for sustainability and efficiency within the refrigeration industry.
