Enlighten Designs has been named an OpenAI Select Partner, placing the Hamilton software firm in the OpenAI Partner Network.

The designation brings the New Zealand company into OpenAI's partner programme for businesses that build and deliver artificial intelligence services for clients.

Enlighten Designs works with enterprises and public sector organisations on AI, custom software, data and analytics, web development, and managed services. Its customer base spans sectors including energy, finance, education, and local government.

Founded in Hamilton in 1998, the company said the new status would support its work with organisations trying to move AI projects beyond early trials into routine use. That often involves integrating models into existing business systems and setting rules around deployment and use.

OpenAI describes its partner network as a global programme for companies that build, sell, and deliver AI products and services using its technology. The scheme brings together firms with industry experience and customer relationships, while giving them access to support and other resources.

One focus for Enlighten Designs is helping organisations use OpenAI models in day-to-day work. It also aims to support responsible deployment as more businesses and public bodies test how generative AI can be used in internal processes and customer-facing services.

A recent example involved an AI-based survey analysis platform built for an Australian community organisation. The system used OpenAI models to automate sentiment analysis and classify community feedback across 27 categories, replacing a manual sorting process.

That project reflects a broader market pattern. Many organisations have begun with narrow uses of generative AI, such as drafting emails, preparing presentations, and summarising meeting notes. Moving beyond those initial tasks has proved harder for some because of concerns about governance, delivery, and practical integration.

"As an OpenAI Select Partner, we're looking forward to helping our clients leverage OpenAI's offerings and move from experimenting to production," said Damon Kelly, Chief Executive Officer of Enlighten Designs.

The company's work includes AI development alongside more conventional software and data projects, giving it a route into organisations that may already use it for technology delivery. That matters in a market such as New Zealand, where many employers are looking for local providers to implement emerging AI tools while managing risk and compliance requirements.

Enlighten Designs also referred to OpenAI models including GPT-6 Astra, Sol, and Luna, as well as ChatGPT Work, in outlining the services it expects to deliver through the partnership. Its aim is to help organisations get more practical value from AI deployments while controlling costs.

For OpenAI, expanding its local delivery partner base is part of a wider effort to extend the use of its models through external consulting and software firms, rather than through direct product adoption alone. For regional service providers, formal partner status can help signal access to vendor support and closer alignment with the underlying technology roadmap.

Enlighten Designs said it would continue working with OpenAI to build and deploy AI systems for clients across New Zealand's enterprise and public sectors.
