Informatica named Leader in Gartner data governance MQ

Tue, 13th Jan 2026

Informatica has been named a Leader in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for Data and Analytics Governance Platforms.

Gartner assessed vendors on criteria that included Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute. The analyst firm also set requirements for inclusion in the evaluation. These requirements spanned general availability, product or service capability, performance, impact, geographic coverage and industrial coverage.

Informatica said it received the Leader position for its Intelligent Data Management Cloud platform, known as IDMC. The company positions the product as a cloud-based data management platform with a focus on data and analytics governance.

Governance focus

Data and analytics governance has attracted more attention as organisations increase their use of analytics and artificial intelligence. Companies have faced growing scrutiny on how they manage data quality, data access controls, lineage, and privacy requirements. Many are also dealing with expanding data estates that include a higher volume of unstructured information.

Gartner described what it expects from this category of products. "A data and analytics governance platform helps organizations design and enforce governance policies for data and its derived assets across its life cycle. D&A leaders should explore and adopt these capabilities to meet end users' demand for streamlined, scaled, and automated governance decision making," Gartner said.

Gartner also set out how it expects governance programmes to evolve over the next few years. "By 2027, 60% of data governance teams will prioritize governance of unstructured data to deliver GenAI use cases and improve decision quality in organizations. Through 2028, 80% of S&P 1200 organizations will relaunch a modern, D&A governance program, based around a trust model," Gartner said.

Product detail

Informatica said IDMC works across multicloud environments. It said the platform manages multiple data types, including structured and unstructured data, plus AI assets.

The company also highlighted its use of CLAIRE, which it describes as an AI layer for automation across its platform. Informatica said this automation supports governance controls across different systems.

Informatica said more than 5,000 organisations use its platform globally. The company did not provide a breakdown by geography or sector in its announcement.

Executive comment

Informatica linked the recognition to governance requirements tied to generative and agentic AI. "As enterprises innovate with Generative and Agentic AI, they need powerful data and analytics governance capabilities. Leveraging advanced AI-powered automation with CLAIRE, our Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) platform empowers enterprises to scale critical governance controls across diverse ecosystems, enabling AI ready assets," said Brett Roscoe, Senior Vice President, and General Manager of Data Governance and Cloud Operations, Informatica.

"We believe this recognition as a Leader affirms our dedication to innovation and customer success. We are committed to enabling organizations to innovate with data and AI, driving confidence in their outcomes while accelerating value for their business," said Roscoe.

Wider market

Governance tools have become more prominent as companies deploy large language models and other AI systems that depend on reliable and well-managed data. Unstructured data governance has also emerged as a practical challenge, given the volume of documents, messages, audio, images and video inside many enterprises.

Vendors in this segment typically address policy definition, access control, cataloguing, metadata management and workflow. Organisations also look for integration with data platforms and analytics tools. Many buyers now ask for lineage and explainability, particularly when analytics outputs get used in operational decision making.

Informatica said the Magic Quadrant placement reflects Gartner's evaluation of suppliers in the data and analytics governance platforms market. Gartner said organisations should consider tools that offer streamlined, scaled and automated governance decision making.
