FYI, this story is more than a year old

Juniper Networks is acquiring security analytics start up Cyphort as it seeks to bolster its software-defined secure network vision.

Cyphort, which dubs it's offering 'anti-SIEM', provides real-time security analytics for advanced threat defence for mid- and large-sized enterprise clients.

Cyphort's technology will be integrated into Juniper's Sky ATP offering, providing 'an enhanced solution for both on-premises and cloud', Juniper says.

The company says the integrated offering will provide customers with improved performance, an increased range of supported file types and additional threat detection capabilities, including on and off premises support, cloud email, analytics and improved malware detection.

Kevin Hutchins, Juniper senior vice president of strategy, says "Cyphort's solution is built with an open architecture that integrates with existing security tools to discover and contain the threats that bypass the first line of security defence.

"This is accomplished through machine learning and behavioural analytics to improve efficacy.

"Harnessing the power of its analytics engine, Cyphort's technology complements traditional security information and event management platforms and, in some cases, provides a more efficient and simpler solution for enterprise customers.

Hutchins says the deal, for an undisclosed sum, furthers Juniper's plans to be a leader in the next-generation firewall space – something he says 'is critcal to our software-defined secure network vision'.

The deal, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close within the next month.
