Oliver Hill announces departure from HP New Zealand after 20 Years
Oliver Hill, the Managing Director of HP New Zealand, has announced his departure from the company after an impressive 20-year tenure. Hill, who began his journey with HP as a helpdesk analyst, shared the news in a heartfelt LinkedIn post, signalling the end of a significant chapter in his professional life.
"After 20 incredible years, it's time for a new chapter," Hill wrote. "Twenty years ago, I joined HP as a helpdesk analyst, simply seeking a better opportunity. That decision set me on a journey that has shaped both my personal and professional life in ways I could never have anticipated."
Throughout his two decades at HP, Hill progressed through various roles. He served as Business Manager for Commercial Channel Sales from 2012 to 2016, where he led what he described as "the most talented channel team in the IT industry at HP New Zealand." Following that, he became the Business Manager for Enterprise, Commercial, and Distribution, leading national sales teams servicing enterprise and government customers. In this role, he focused on reinventing printing across three pillars: Office Print, Graphics, and 3D Print, aiming to disrupt the manufacturing market and improve customer outcomes.
According to LinkedIn, Hill was appointed Country Manager in November 2019, a position he held until January 2024. During this time, he also took on the role of Executive Sponsor for HP's Women & Multicultural Business Resource Group, supporting meaningful conversations on equity, mental health, and cultural challenges in the workplace. His commitment to fostering an inclusive environment extended to his role as Executive Sponsor for the ANZ Pride Resource Group, where he worked to support the rainbow community within and outside HP in Australia and New Zealand.
"It's the people who have kept me here for nearly half of my life," Hill noted. "Their drive and passion have challenged me to grow, learn, and evolve daily. Over the years, I've been lucky to have mentors who believed in me, even when I didn't always believe in myself. I've aimed to pay that forward, supporting others in their journeys."
Under his leadership, HP New Zealand achieved remarkable milestones, including attaining the world's highest market share in commercial PCs. The company also garnered numerous industry awards and made significant strides in sustainable impact and digital equity initiatives. Hill expressed immense pride in these accomplishments, stating, "It's been an honour to lead such a passionate and innovative team."
Hill's last day at HP will be 3rd October 2024. While he has not yet disclosed his next move, he hinted at an "exciting new opportunity outside of the company," promising to share details in due course. "As I embark on this next adventure (which I'll share with you at the right time), I will carry the lessons I've learned here with me—particularly the importance of relationships, teamwork, leadership, and a growth mindset," he shared.
His departure has stirred emotions among colleagues, clients, and industry partners alike. Many have taken to social media to express their gratitude and admiration for Hill's contributions to the company and the broader tech community. His journey from a helpdesk analyst to the helm of HP New Zealand serves as an inspiration to many within the tech sector.
As HP New Zealand prepares for this leadership transition, Hill leaves the vendor with strong foundations. His dedication to innovation, inclusion, and excellence has left an indelible mark on both the company and the industry.
"Here's to new beginnings and continued growth!" Hill concluded in his announcement.
