OPPO launches Reno12 AI phones in New Zealand market
Global smart device brand OPPO has introduced two new AI Phones, the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro, in New Zealand. These are the latest additions to its Reno series and represent the company's first major release since pledging to make advanced AI capabilities accessible to a wider audience. This commitment is also supported by notable partners such as Google and Microsoft.
Morgan Halim, OPPO New Zealand's Country Manager, commented on the current landscape of AI phones, noting, "Currently, the small number of existing AI phones are targeted at the upper end of the market with a hefty price tag to match. OPPO is a challenger brand in the New Zealand market that seeks to bring advanced AI capabilities to many more people, empowering them with our exceptional products at competitive pricing."
The Reno12 and Reno12 Pro aim to enhance productivity and creativity for everyday users. The devices feature the series' longest battery life, fastest charging capabilities, and the most robust hardware. They also incorporate an array of GenAI features designed for various applications. These include the AI Portrait Expert, AI Toolbox, and AI Recording Summary tool, each offering unique functionalities. The AI Portrait Expert provides several photo enhancements, such as real-time adjustments and an AI Eraser to remove unwanted objects from images.
Additionally, the phones' camera systems boast notable upgrades. The main camera is equipped with a Sony LYT-600 sensor, enabling faster and more stable focusing. Both models include a 50MP Telephoto Portrait Camera with up to 2x optical zoom and a new 50MP Selfie Camera. "This is a phone that will appeal to creative enthusiasts, whether they're using it for photography, content creation, gaming or social media sharing," stated a company representative.
Regarding design, the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro offer aesthetic choices between Astro Silver fluid ripple and Black Brown for the Reno12 and Nebula Silver or Nebula Black for the Reno12 Pro. The devices feature a 6.7-inch, 120Hz OLED display capable of displaying up to 1.07 billion colours and OPPO's proprietary Splash Touch technology for usability even when wet. The phones also incorporate Corning Gorilla Glass for enhanced durability and an IP65 dust and water resistance rating.
The new releases exhibit OPPO's continued focus on structural integrity. The high-strength alloy framework and ultra-tough glass on the screen offer improved protection against drops, pressure, and water exposure, making them the Reno series' most robust devices yet. Charging efficiency has also been optimised, with the battery capable of charging from 1% to 32% in ten minutes and requiring only 46 minutes for a full charge.
The Reno12 and Reno12 Pro also feature a customised 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy For Reno mobile platform, co-developed with MediaTek. This platform promises better power efficiency and enhanced performance through updates to the ColorOS Trinity Engine, including improved resource allocation, RAM utilisation, and storage management.
The company explained, "By using AI models to identify the current user scenario, the Trinity Engine's updated CPU-Vita engine can precisely allocate SoC resources, achieving lower power consumption while ensuring system stability and smoothness."
The retail prices of the OPPO Reno12 and Reno12 Pro are NZD $799 and NZD $1099, respectively. The recent expansion aims to provide customers with high-quality, AI-integrated smartphones at competitive prices.
