OWC unveils Atlas Pro and Ultra CFexpress 4.0 memory cards with doubled speed

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Other World Computing, the leading solution provider of computer hardware, accessories, and software, has announced new Atlas Pro and Ultra CFexpress 4.0 memory cards with double the speed of their previous generation counterparts. The new cards are a technological leap forward, offering the industry's first upgrade capability from the Atlas 2.0 memory cards to the new Compact Flash Association (CFA) CFexpress 4.0 specification.

The new memory cards represent a major speed increase, with the Atlas Pro 256GB, Atlas Pro 512GB, Atlas Ultra 1TB, and Atlas Ultra 2TB cards enabling remarkable 3650MB/s read and 3000MB/s write speeds. This signifies a 97% increase from the previous generation cards. The impressive speed of these cards not only enhances the capability to capture stunning 4K, 6K, and 8K+ videos but also offers unprecedented access to offload content for editing and distribution. Importantly, power consumption remains low, ensuring suitability for timely applications in all battery-operated cameras.

In another industry-first, OWC provides both forward and backward compatibility solutions. The Atlas CFexpress 4.0 memory cards utilise OWC's Innergize software to upgrade the firmware on previous Atlas Ultra 1TB and 2TB cards to the new CFexpress 4.0 firmware. This ability to prolong the use of technology increases the read/write speeds of memory cards almost two-fold. Furthermore, the new memory cards can be retrofitted into CFA 2.0 PCIe Gen 3 hosts, adding value and flexibility for users.

"We always want to ensure that our customers can get the most out of our products, which is why we spent considerable time and effort ensuring our latest PCIe Gen 3 CFexpress Ultra 1 and 2TB cards were forward compatible with the latest CFA 4.0 specification," said Larry O'Connor, founder and CEO at OWC. He emphasised that enabling existing OWC Atlas memory card owners to upgrade their products without needing to purchase new cards is "a game changer that we are delighted to bring to the table."

The OWC Atlas Ecosystem assists photographers and videographers through the entire creative process, from capture to completion. The hardware and software solutions, including Atlas memory cards, OWC Innergize software, and Atlas Card Readers, provide the necessary tools to ensure maximum reliability, performance, and seamless delivery from camera to audience.

The Atlas Pro CFexpress 256GB and 512GB memory cards are now available at $169.99 and $199.99, respectively. The Atlas Ultra CFexpress 1TB and 2TB can be purchased at $579.99 and $999.99, respectively. Further upgrades and improved functionalities are provided by the latest version of OWC Innergize for Mac, while a version for Windows will be released soon.
