Scandit unveils SDK 7.0 with smart data capture upgrades

Yesterday

Scandit has launched its latest software development kit, SDK 7.0, promising enhancements in smart data capture capabilities.

The update is designed to tackle scanning challenges across various industries such as retail, logistics, manufacturing, and air travel. The SDK 7.0 features a context-aware scanning engine that optimises workflow efficiency while ensuring accuracy and reducing errors.

A key feature, Smart Scan Intention, enhances the scanning process by understanding user intent to ensure the correct barcode is scanned, even with imprecise aiming. This feature aims to significantly reduce errors and inefficiencies in barcode-dense environments like grocery aisles or warehouses. "Scandit's Smart Scan Intention helps eliminate friction by understanding which barcode the user intends to scan, leading to fewer errors and more accurate scanning," said François Martin, Co-Founder and CTO of Yuka.

Another update, Smart Label Capture, allows for multi-modal data capture, which can collect barcode and text data from labels concurrently. This technology can accelerate complex data entry up to sevenfold, improving accuracy and mitigating risks of revenue loss associated with incorrect information. The feature has reportedly helped a US company avoid USD $1.3 million in potential revenue loss due to misinterpreted labels.

SDK 7.0 includes an upgraded SparkScan User Interface, now more adaptable and minimalistic, suitable for employee and consumer applications. This UI ensures compatibility with diverse applications through customisable options for product managers and UX teams.

The software also boasts improved ID validation capabilities with increased accuracy in detecting fake IDs and void documents without manual intervention. This enhances user experiences in processes like driver registrations, maintaining a rapid scanning speed.

The new release offers a 20% boost in battery life and a 65% extension in scan range, which is beneficial for scanning small barcodes in challenging locations. The update also expands platform support with features such as MatrixScan Batch, MatrixScan Find, and MatrixScan AR now available for web applications.

Christian Floerkemeier, CTO and Co-founder at Scandit, stated, "We continue to push the boundaries of smart data capture with the enhancements and intelligence built into this major release, which solve real-world problems across multiple industries. Our vision with SDK 7.0 is to further automate complex workflows for businesses while reducing the friction for frontline workers and customers in everyday data capture tasks."

Alongside the SDK 7.0, Scandit introduced a Community Edition for Education, providing free, non-commercial access to students and university affiliates. This initiative offers unlimited access to barcodes and ID scanning, incorporating advanced capabilities like MatrixScan Find and MatrixScan Count.
