Thomas launches secure touch screens for industrial labs

Fri, 22nd Nov 2024

Thomas Instrumentation has launched touch screens designed for industrial and laboratory use, highlighting their reliability, security, and adaptability.

The touch screens, available in four different sizes—four, five, seven, and 10 inches—are engineered to meet the demanding conditions of both industrial and medical laboratory environments. The screens are designed to be glove-friendly and equipped with high-brightness displays, ensuring optimal performance under various conditions. Unlike those of its competitors, Thomas Instrumentation's touch screens operate on a proprietary operating system, which the company claims provides heightened security by eliminating vulnerabilities commonly found in traditional platforms.

"Our clients value solutions they can rely on, and our touch screens consistently exceed expectations," states Cassandra Cummings, Chief Executive Officer and second-generation operator at Thomas Instrumentation. "From enhanced reliability to high security, we've created a product that meets modern industry needs while ensuring peace of mind for our customers."

Thomas Instrumentation also offers customisation options for both hardware and software. From design to production, the company works closely with clients to ensure that their touch screens meet specific user goals. During the prototyping phase, clients collaborate with engineers to develop custom firmware tailored to their requirements, assisting with aspects such as system control algorithms, sensor monitoring feedback, user interfaces, and data management.

Cassandra Cummings highlights the company's competitive edge, stating, "Our competitive edge goes beyond state-of-the-art machinery. It lies in the decades of experience and expertise our team brings to the table. Many of our employees have been with us for decades. That continuity and dedication are invaluable and something our competitors simply can't replicate."

The touch screens are built to withstand challenging environmental conditions, including higher humidity, temperatures, vibrations, and electrical noise such as Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), as well as unstable or inconsistent power grids. These features ensure consistent operation, data integrity, and seamless recovery from power outages, making the systems particularly suitable for harsh industrial and medical laboratory environments.

Security is emphasised as a significant strength of Thomas Instrumentation's offerings. By utilising their proprietary operating system and avoiding mainstream platforms like Linux, Windows, or Apple systems, the company aims to provide a robust defence against cyber threats.

"Security is a top priority for our customers," Cummings adds. "Our proprietary OS makes it incredibly difficult to compromise our systems. This forward-thinking design allows clients to trust not only our products but also our brand."
