Avnet has launched an education services division for its Asia Pacific business, appointing regional vice president for marketing and business innovation Michael Costigan to take charge of the unit.
According to the distributor, the new strategic business unit will offer flexible training and enablement services and solutions to Avnet's regional partners and suppliers.
"Through Education services, Avnet will enable customers to have a better understanding of the emerging technologies – including big data, cloud, security, and converged and hyper-converged solutions, among others that are shaping today's business," Avnet explains.
Education Services is Avnet's sixth strategic business unit. It operate alongside the Data Center, Cloud, Security and Enterprise Networking, Cognitive Computing - Internet of Things, and Mobility units.
William Chu, Avnet Asia Pacific president, says all six SBUs will be integral to providing robust offerings through transforming technology into business solutions for Avnet's customers.
"Education and enablement are an intrinsic part of the value Avnet brings to our partners and suppliers," Chu says.
"Through this offering, we help our partners gain, or, deepen their technical expertise providing them an edge to seize greater opportunities in today's rapidly evolving technologies and business environment," he explains.
Chu says Costigan's long history with Avnet makes him very suitable to drive the success of the new SBU.
"[Michael] has great familiarity with Avnet's education services offering , and more importantly he has a deep understanding of the Asia Pacific region and our stakeholders' business," Chu explains.
"Michael will add the Education portfolio to the regional marketing and supplier business units that he currently leads across the Asia Pacific region for Avnet.
Chu says Avnet is following the footsteps its Technology Solutions counterparts in the Americas and the Europe, Middle and Africa regions that have already launched their Education Services SBUs to market and received an excellent response from partners.
