Clarity AI & AWS partnership for sustainable investing
Fri, 1st Dec 2023

News has emerged from the recently concluded AWS re:Invent convention that Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), has announced a partnership with leading sustainability technology platform, Clarity AI. This budding alliance seeks to leverage AW's generative AI, machine learning, and data analysis capabilities to measure and bolster the sustainability and social impact of various companies and investment funds on a large scale.

Clarity AI is an innovative platform renowned for its analysis of millions of data points. It aptly aids investors in tracking and measuring the impact of their investment portfolios on societal facets and sustainable living. Its services extend to comply with regulatory reporting and currently empower approximately 150 million shoppers with information that facilitates sustainable purchasing. Moreover, $30 trillion worth of portfolios are directed towards environmentally beneficial companies due to the insights provided by Clarity AI.

Ángel Agudo, board director and senior vice president of Product at Clarity AI, expressed the company's need for AWS's scale and flexibility. "AWS provides the cloud services, flexibility, and scale we need to be a data-driven company, to unlock the power of AI, and to deliver critical sustainability insights to investors, consumers, and organizations making key decisions that impact our planet and its inhabitants each and every day," he said. "At Clarity AI, our ambition is that social and environmental impact is seen by investors and businesses as a key variable beyond purely financial values."

Using AWS's machine learning and analytics capabilities, Clarity AI runs its mission-critical platforms and offers practical sustainability analysis tools for investment, corporate research, benchmarking, consumer ecommerce purchasing, and regulatory reporting. Using Amazon SageMaker and Amazon EC2 GPU instances, Clarity AI trains extensive language models and natural language processing models, which in turn classify and manage unstructured data points gleaned from various financial reports and sustainability reports.

Clarity AI also utilizes Amazon QuickSight, a business intelligence service provided by AWS, to present its findings through detailed reports, interactive dashboards, and embedded analytics. Additionally, it uses the service for natural language queries. Efficiency is further amplified by a generative AI-powered chatbot that handles inquiries from potential clients on AWS.

Cognizant of security and governance protocols, Clarity AI relies on AWS to manage security, improve governance, and maintain regulatory compliance. It uses Amazon GuardDuty, a threat detection service, and AWS WAF, a web firewall, to protect its AWS accounts and workloads from malicious activities and to safeguard data.

Gauging the potential of generative AI, Matt Garman, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing, and Global Services at AWS, said, "Generative AI has the potential to transform every application, business, and industry, and Clarity AI is a great example of how this technology can deliver important benefits for business, society, and the planet."

Looking ahead, Clarity AI has intentions to broaden its use of AWS's generative AI and machine learning services. This is anticipated to streamline their model development process, bolster their inference capabilities, and harness innovative technologies, contributing significantly to sustainable investing and informed purchasing decisions.
