Softsource vBridge acquires TLC to form major IT group

Mon, 11th Nov 2024

Softsource vBridge, a prominent ICT systems integrator, has acquired The Laptop Company (TLC) to create one of New Zealand's largest privately-owned IT groups.

The acquisition involves a 100% share purchase agreement between Softsource vBridge and TLC, which was established in 1986 and previously owned by David Pettengell. Through New Zealand's All of Government IT Hardware contract, TLC provides managed computer fleets to various sectors, including corporate, financial, and public sectors.

Pablo Garcia-Curtis, Chief Executive Officer of Softsource vBridge, emphasised the significance of the acquisition, stating, "This acquisition is a significant milestone for us. It allows us to offer a broader range of solutions while maintaining the exceptional service our customers expect."

TLC will continue to operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary, with long-term Chief Executive Officer Mark Mayo and Chief Financial Officer Andrew Robinson at the helm. The companies aim to enhance their combined customer-focused growth and drive significant advancements for their clients.

Mark Mayo expressed optimism about the integration: "Our shared values and successful past collaborations made this a natural fit. We are excited at the prospect of being able to bring more to the table for our customers. The acquisition allows us to do this while providing more value, capacity, and capability."

The acquisition is designed to strengthen both companies' positions. TLC will retain its offices in Dunedin, Auckland, and Christchurch. This, combined with Softsource vBridge's expansion into Nelson, will ensure a national footprint of ICT services across New Zealand.

Garcia-Curtis noted, "Our goal has always been to make technology accessible and beneficial for all New Zealand organisations. These are two successful companies that were operating without much overlap in capabilities or clients. This union is much greater than the sum of its parts."

The acquisition process included extensive due diligence to ensure seamless integration with minimal impact on customers. Garcia-Curtis added, "This acquisition is about more than just growth; it's about combining our strengths to better serve our customers. We are excited about the future and the opportunities this partnership brings."

The acquisition of The Laptop Company by Softsource vBridge marks a significant development in New Zealand's ICT landscape, bringing together two companies with complementary strengths. With TLC continuing to operate as a subsidiary and both companies maintaining their leadership teams, the focus remains on enhancing service delivery and expanding their combined reach across the country. The partnership is set to drive growth and innovation, offering clients a broader range of solutions while strengthening the national footprint of IT services.
